Happy to meet ya (virtually)!

Hi, I'm Emma

Hey there! I truly believe that together we can build an amazing community here at The Girl Budgets, where we learn from each other and grow along the way. Let me share a bit more about myself: I grew up in rural Northern Ireland with my dad and a bunch of wonderful siblings. Although money was tight after we lost my mum when I was young, our home was always filled with love and laughter, and for that, I'm forever grateful. 💕

After graduating from Hull University with a degree in Chemistry, I quickly realized that my clumsy tendencies weren't exactly suited for the lab life—trust me, beakers and I didn't get along! 😂

So, I ventured into a variety of careers over the past 20+ years, picking up invaluable experiences and lessons along the way. Going through my own debt-free journey inspired me to help others achieve the same freedom and start living out their dreams. And of course, I couldn't do it without my trusty assistants: Cookie, my lovable rescue Border Collie, and Oreo, my mischievous tabby cat. They keep things interesting around here! 🐶🐱

I'm so excited to have you join me on this journey toward financial empowerment. Let's support each other, share our stories, and make magic happen together! ✨

This is my story.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned on my journey, it’s that financial freedom isn’t just a dream—it’s a reality you can create, one smart decision at a time.

My story begins in a small, rural corner of Northern Ireland, where I first discovered the complexities of money, from pocketing a few sweets on "the book" as a kid to juggling credit cards and student loans as an adult. Like many, I thought debt was just part of life—until I realized it didn’t have to be. After hitting my breaking point in 2019, I stumbled upon zero-based budgeting, debt snowballs, and using cash, and I decided to change my financial fate. Fast forward to today, and I am completely debt-free, with a solid emergency fund and a renewed sense of control over my life.

Now, I’m on a mission to help you do the same. I created The Girl Budgets to share the tools, tips, and inspiration that helped me break free from debt and start living life on my terms. My aim is to make budgeting simple, relatable, and—dare I say it—fun! Whether you’re drowning in debt or just looking to take your finances to the next level, I’m here to guide you every step of the way. Let’s rewrite your financial story together and prove that living debt-free isn’t just possible—it’s empowering! 💪💰
